Global Private Cloud, VDI and Security Deployment
Clinical Network Services (CNS) is an Australian, full-service contract research organisation specialising in the planning and management of phase I and II clinical trials for SME biotech companies. CNS approached Deployus for a solution that would allow them to secure and consistently access their highly valuable intellectual property and corporate assets within their distributed world offices. CNS also required a multi-layered security platform that took into account the strict IT security and compliance protocols in place within the clinical research sector.

The Challenge
The Deployus team responded to CNS with a private cloud solution that incorporated full virtualisation with distributed load balanced data centres. Each incorporated desktop replacement, application presentation and BYOD to allow CNS employees to operate with the same look and feel on any device, anywhere in the world and most importantly, in a completely secure environment. The intelligent solution that was ultimately implemented allowed CNS to present information as a picture when viewed outside the corporate network to ensure no data transfer took place and information assets remained protected.
Security By Design
In addition to providing a robust, redundant and resilient architecture, Deployus designed and maintain a layered adaptive security and authentication system extending from the endpoint to the next work perimeter and to cloud-based SaaS applications. Deployus and CNS actively monitor, test and improve this system as the modern threat landscape continues to evolve. Since this system has been implemented, no data breaches have occurred despite numerous breach attempts.
The Solution
To provide CNS with a complete solution, Deployus procured all equipment associated with the new platform. The hardware and software sourced included Palo Alto next-generation firewalls, F5 Networks Big-IP Application Delivery controllers, and Citrix XenApp delivery/application and virtualisation/shared desktop presentation and VMware vSphere virtualisation. This system is agile as it continues to be added to and improved upon on an ongoing basis as business requirements evolve.
Due to the global nature of CNS operations, high uptime is a key requirement to this deployment and all systems were designed to be fault-tolerant and redundant using Active/Active, Active/Passive, and Replicated systems, each defined by a specific SLA within the business. Replication and data continuity is provided in part by using Veeam Backup and Replication technologies for an always-on business.
The value that the Deployus team was able to deliver for CNS will be realised for many years to come. CNS, with offices around the world, now operates an enterprise-level scalable and highly secure desktop and application delivery platform. CNS has the ability to conveniently expand internationally using centralised data and a presentation solution allowing staff to collaborate with ease, no matter where they’re based, all while retaining full control of confidential data. Commercially, CNS realised the benefits of the rollout immediately via the reduced management costs associated with their operating environment.
